Whilst all eyes were on the World Cup in Brazil this summer, we were searching for the unsung hero who turns out week after week to contribute to amateur sport in their local community.
Step forward Adam Chapman who scoops a trip for two to Rio de Janeiro including a tour of the world famous Maracanã Stadium, home of Brazilian football and this year’s World Cup final.
Adam’s been running his U12 football, Gedling Southbank, for over 5 years and they clubbed together to put forward an excellent case as to why he should be crowned our local sporting hero. He has provided the funding for new home & away kits, organised for his team to play on Nottingham Forest’s football pitch on three different occasions, as well as arrange field trips to St. Georges Park, the new home of the FA, and Old Trafford. His time and effort has paid off as Gedling Southbank have previously won the U11 league, losing once during the whole campaign.
This season they finished in 3rd place, only just missing out on promotion. Adam’s commitment & passion for coaching is reflected in his team’s achievements. Congratulations and enjoy Rio. Make sure you send us a postcard!
Our other lucky winners of a trip to Rio courtesy of our friends at Latin American travel specialists Chimu Adventures are Natalie Atterbury and Aaran Gravestock. Happy travelling!
We also gave away three whopping £1000 sponsorships to U-16 and younger football teams this summer and the cash has been duly splashed by Corinthians FC, Bletchley Juniors and Broadmeadow FC on new kit and more. Look out for Las Iguanas logo on a pitch near you this season.
